SAFETY AT HOME – ARE YOUR KIDS REALLY SAFE?

Do you ever wonder if your kids are really safe at home…is there more that you can do to protect them?

In my previous Safety at Home posts, I have listed many potential dangers that you as parents can remove from your home to prevent accidents before they happen.

This post will deal with a variety of additional possible dangers to the health and safety of your kids…read below to more fully discover kids safety tips you may not have thought of.

  • If you have a  fireplace,  space heater, etc. put barriers around it to prevent your kids from being burned.
  • Have syrup of Ipecac handy for accidental poisonings, but be sure to call your physician or poison control center before using it.
  • Be sure that plastic bags, broken toy pieces, screws and other potential choking
hazards are thrown away or put in an area children can’t get to.
  • Have all indoor and outdoor stairways and entrances well lit and not obstructed.
  • Be sure all bathrooms and bedrooms can be unlocked from the outside.
  • Keep matches and lighters away from children’s reach.
  • Keep at least two exits clear in case of fire or other emergency.
  • Check all electrical cords for cracks and fraying.
  • Be sure that all outlets and extension cords are not overloaded.
  • It is best not to use space heaters.  If they are used, make sure they are in safe condition.
Never plug them into an extension cord.
Do not place them near drapes or furnishings.
  • Do not use the stove/oven as a heater.
  • Wallpaper and paint should not be chipping or peeling.
  • Keep purses, backpacks, etc. out of children’s reach or in a locked box because they may contain medicines, hard candies or other items that can harm kids.
  • It is always wise to call for help whenever you’re uncomfortable with a medical situation.

In a home, safety is a number one concern. Alarm systems help to ease the mind of home owners and business owners alike. Quality alarm batteries are crucial to keeping an alarm system fully functional. They should be replaced annually.

Thank you, Duane for your input about alarm systems!

When it comes to being a professional at your business, this sort of information is invaluable. I just loved and appreciated the way the information was put together and how many golden nuggets are contained in this piece. This is the type of information that we need to hear. What’s really amazing is how clear and concise everything is. How do you think technology will change your industry in the near future? Super job and continue the good work.

Sharon, thank you for your gowing comment about my post: Are Your Kids Really Safe At Home? I’m so glad you got a lot from it. Technology is always ongoing, so I’m sure there will be changes in all industries. What they will be, time will only tell.

What is your first response when you are sick or not feeling well? Do you run to the doctor to get a diagnosis and a prescription for drugs? Do you do nothing hoping it will all fix itself on its own? Do you wallow in your misery hoping for attention and sympathy from everyone you meet? Or, do you examine the source of your discontent – your “dis-ease – and try to understand that its origin and its cure reside in the same place?

If the dis-ease and its cure – its opposite – reside in the same source, then what must you do to reach that source? Is it possible to reverse diseases without interference from the pharmaceutical industry or what’s called “modern medicine?

Those are really great tips! The truth is I’m not yet a mother myself but I know the worries and fears of every parent since I’ve been the sole parent to my sister.

There are several things that you think couldn’t hurt kids, but we are wrong. Even a single pen could mean so much harm for little kids. Our little kids are so vulnerable that we should really look after them if possible every single minute. But for working moms and dads, that wouldn’t be possible.

One thing that I’ve learned from a friend is that she installed web cameras all over their house. In such a manner she is able to take a good look and watch over her kids even though she’s far away from them. With the help of a laptop and web cameras installed in their home, her fears and worries have been lessened.

For me, such an idea is quite expensive, but for the sake of our kids, wouldn’t we risk everything? The price won’t matter if it’s for our kids safety, right?
